As Our Son so succinctly put it, earlier this week, tis the season for hurricanes. It's so hard to watch Louisiana being slammed, but I also have this compulsion to "supervise" the storm, as if I might be able to influence the outcome, simply by watching. Yeah, that'll happen.

It also drives me CRAZY when they call things the WRONG thing! News people keep calling the industrial canal FLOOD WALL a levee. It's NOT. It's a flood wall. Why does that matter. Flood walls are designed differently from levees, though they are part of the levee system. The FLOOD WALL that gave way during Katrina wasn't designed to withstand that much water. It was SUPPOSED to be helped by a FLOOD GATE that hadn't been built, even though the Levee Board got the money to build it. They just diverted the funds to other projects, leaving that FLOOD WALL vulnerable.

Levees are different and they HELD during Katrina. That doesn't mean they won't ever collapse, just that levees didn't collapse during Katrina, the FLOOD WALL did.

Okay, end of rant.

Probably. At least for today.

Now for my next one. **g** If you read Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books, then you probably know that someone she trusted released the first twelve chapters of her next book to the internet. This is a HUGE betrayal of her trust and feel for her, BUT, not finishing the book punishes who? She isn't the first author to be betrayed, nor will she be the last. She needs to put on her big girl panties and finish the book FOR the fans who have supported her and bought her books.

Okay, end of that rant. **g**

I"m excited to participate in this worthy cause for two reasons. My cousin's daughter died of this terrible disease and it gives me a good reason to get my butt in the chair and keep writing this month! So, I'm committing to 15,000 words for the month of September. I'm not asking anyone to commit to words, just a flat donation. I'll keep track of my word count and post the total here on my blog and in my ezine at the end of each week.
